INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE NATURE OF THE STATE IN AFRICA IN THE 21st CENTURY: CHALLENGES, TRANSFORMATIONS AND PROSPECTS (ICONAS-AFRICA 2025)-22RD-23RD OCTOBER 2025

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration convened the Inaugural International Conference on the Nature of the State in Africa in the 21st Century: Challenges, Transformations and Prospects (ICONAS-AFRICA 2025) on 22nd and 23rd October 2025. Four (4) keynote addresses and fifty-four (54) papers were presented by local and international researchers and scholars. The key note addresses and papers were rich as they were provocative- whether analyzing Africa's century of humiliation, exploring the cycles of governance crisis and renewal, or interrogating the paradox of sovereignty in the age of globalization and techno-imperialism. Collectively, these conversations reaffirm that Africa is not a passive observer in global transformations but a dynamic actor capable of reimagining its destiny through scholarship, dialogue, and reform.
