On 5th March, 2016 Mr. Tom Malinowski, United States Assistance Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor interacted with the Political Science Students. Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal College of Humanities and Social sciences welcomed The United States Secretary in the College; speaking during the event the Principal noted that The University of Nairobi will continue to strengthen good relationships with the United States Government.
Making his presentation on the “Human Rights and Labor” Mr. Tom Malinawski, The United States Secretary said that we must endeavor to make sure that the County uphold Human Rights, avoid discrimination and promote freedom of speech. The Secretary noted that Human Rights is controversial matter and must be treated with dignity and respect.
The Secretary acknowledged that Kenya among other countries is faced with insecurity especially terror threats from the Al-Shabaab group. He said the United States Government will continue to support Kenya in fighting the onerous ac. Mr. Malinawski noted that we should not compromise our values but build trust and work with the affected communities to get in to the root cause of the problem. He also said that terrorism is a complicated and contentious issue which needs partnerships with the Human Rights society to end radicalization.
